In Recovery Since 1/24/2019
My path to recovery comes like this. After being in and out of juvenile centers, jails, and prison, and finally homeless for about 6 months at the end of my addiction. At the end, I was I shooting up meth. One time after being at my dealer’s house, I started shooting up in front of his kids and after I left there for almost two weeks, I kept hearing this voice saying “What are you doing?” My ex-wife had reached out in the meantime, and I went to her and said, “I need help!” so 4 or 5 days later I was on an airplane going to rehab. I did 28 days at rehab and then went to a sober living house for a while longer. I came back home to Missouri and started going to a place called New Life Mission Inn. I was a client there for over a year and then got hired there and went through training to become a Certified Peer Specialist. I’ve been working at New Life Mission Inn for over 2 years now helping others in their recovery. I mentor kids and participate in other activities within the community. I’m finally an upstanding member of the community, hoping to help change the world. Today I am happily married and have 2 new children since I’ve been in recovery and am very grateful for a second chance at life. I am also part of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) and was awarded Peer Advocate of the Year 2022, which was amazing. Some of the same officers that have arrested me in the past voted for me and presented me with the award. In conclusion, I went from shooting dope to dealing hope. Recovery is possible!
